Majora Carter became passionate about community development while completing her MFA at New York University, advocating for the development of Hunts Point Riverside Park, the South Bronx’s first open-waterfront park in 60 years. As an environmental justice advocate, she consults on similar projects across the country through her economic consulting and planning firm the Majora Carter Group. In 2005, Majora was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship, also known as the “genius” grant, and in 2010 her public radio show, The Promised Land, earned a Peabody Award.
